There is a lot to consider during a property inspection. Officers need to assess each space, decide what needs recording and keep the inspection moving. For newer inspectors, a prompt at the right moment can help build confidence. For experienced officers, the process needs to stay quick and flexible.

That is why we have introduced location checklists in The Housing App mobile app. They give inspectors a list of relevant items to consider as they move around a property, with the option to tick items off or add a finding where needed.

A checklist for each location

When an officer enters a room or another area of a property, they can view a checklist of items relevant to that location. It provides a practical reminder of what to consider while they are there.

If an item has been considered and there is nothing to record, the officer can simply tick it as complete. If something does need recording, they can add a finding. Findings are clearly marked as requiring remedial action, further investigation or no action, helping officers distinguish between the next steps needed.

This means inspectors can work through a checklist without creating a finding for every item. They record the detail where it matters and move on when it does not.

Support that fits the way officers work

Location checklists are optional. An officer can use them throughout an inspection, refer to them in particular locations or leave them aside when they are not needed.

That flexibility makes them useful across different levels of experience. Newer officers can use the prompts to help them work through an inspection consistently and confidently. More experienced officers can use the checklist as a quick reference without changing their usual approach or adding unnecessary data entry.

Having the prompts within The Housing App can also reduce reliance on separate paper checklists. The items to consider sit alongside the place where officers record their findings, making it easier to keep everything together during an inspection.
